Primary Role:
- Reading and interpreting engineering blueprints and vendor specifications for fiber optic and electronic equipment
- Updating engineering documents and uploading test data into database, and computer ERP System.
- Planning jobs and determining materials and tools required to complete tasks
- Directing efforts of co-workers, apprentices, and third party contractors for certain job sites, other trades for project accomplishment
- Installation and termination of fiber, coax, and CAT6 cable
- Build and install closets, mount and install backboards, cross connects, relay racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware
- Complete all IDC connections – install and terminate patch panels, coax splitters, and fiber splitters.
- Perform testing, continuity test, horizontal and riser cable, tone set, fluke test and power meters
- Troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts and transpose pairs on cable
- Splicing and terminating fiber optic cables using single and mass fusion splicing equipment, CAT6 and CAT6A copper cables and coaxial cables
- Using OTDR for fault location, maintenance, and repair in fiber optic network
- Interacting directly with the client addressing and resolving any concerns or issues
- Installing power units and batteries for electronics
- Installing POTS lines, FiOS video services, and VDSL and Ethernet circuits.
- Responsible for implementing Company and OSHA policies safety standards
Additional Responsibilities:
- Climb and work from a ladder up to 12 feet high and occasionally scaffold as necessary
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Responsible for reading and understanding assigned project documentation, and determine if additional information is required
- Inform Project Manager of any problems and concerns with assigned projects
- Maintain updated as-built drawings and documentation for assigned projects
- Responsible for reporting daily time and activity to the PM and supervisor
- Maintain a professional image and build good customer relationships
- Actively participate in personal and professional development and maintain knowledge of current and new technologies that the company offers
Travel:
Some out of town travel may be required.
Additional Skills and Abilities:
- Highschool Diploma, GED or other equivalent
- BICSI Technician Certification is highly preferred
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to navigate a computer with basic knowledge and adaptability
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be responsible, self-motivated, self-starter, personable and well-organized
- Superior customer service skills to deal with both internal and external customers
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse groups and colleagues
- Ability to demonstrate planning, organizing and implementing skills which allow the successful completion of a project by a specific due date
- Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations
- Must be able to read and effectively interpret general business documentation
